Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov took part in the first day of the G20 talks in Asheville, USA. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also met with him in person on the sidelines of the meeting.

During their private meeting, Bessent told Siluanov that the war against Ukraine must come to an end. According to Politico, the US Treasury Secretary also made it clear that the US would not offer Russia economic aid until the war had ended. The parties discussed Trump’s plan for peace and economic growth.

The White House confirmed that the decision to allow Russia to take part in the talks was taken by the Trump administration. The US President himself explained his position as a desire to maintain relations with everyone.

“We’ll see what happens. But we like it when we get on well with everyone,” Trump told journalists at the White House, responding to a question about the reasons for inviting the Russian representatives.
