The special service has treated the clouds with anti-hail missiles

In connection with heavy rains accompanied by hail, the Special Service for Active Impact on Hydrometeorological Processes carried out "a series of operational activities" at the end of last week. In Edinet, Singerei, Cornesti and Calarasi, units of this service treated convective clouds with 51 anti-hail rockets.

According to the official data of the department, 1,069 anti-hail missiles have been used this season.

In response to a Logos Press inquiry, representatives of insurance companies noted that in late May and early June, they received requests from clients to survey and assess losses incurred by agricultural lands as a result of rainfall. Most of the cases were about washing away and siltation of plantations as a result of heavy rains. However, cases of hailstorms have also been recorded, but so far in numbers not exceeding the statistics of the previous few seasons.

At the moment, the main damage is caused to spring crops – sunflower and corn. It is not yet possible to estimate potential yield losses of these crops objectively, as the plants are still in the early stages of development. At the same time, the damage to the main winter crops (wheat, barley, rape) from hail damage in the current season is not too high – about 10-20%. Orchards were also affected by hail, in some regions – significantly, but “pointwise”. The damage is recorded mainly in border areas, where the possibility of using anti-hail missiles is strictly limited by regulations.
