
Currently, key sectors of Europe’s digital economy depend largely on companies from the U.S. and Asia. American corporations hold leading positions in cloud technology and artificial intelligence, while Asian manufacturers play a significant role in equipment supply.
According to Bloomberg, the “Buy European” principle could be one way to support European developers. Analysts believe that government procurement can provide local companies with stable demand and help them compete with the world’s largest players.
One example of this policy is the situation surrounding the American company Palantir, which develops data analysis systems for government agencies and security services. France has stated the need to develop its own digital tools and is considering European alternatives.
Among Palantir’s potential competitors, French authorities have cited the company ChapsVision. Meanwhile, Palantir’s current contract with the French intelligence agency DGSI remains in effect for another three years.
ChapsVision has already secured several government contracts in France. According to analysts, the potential value of its contract with the DGSI could be at least €100 million.
Interest in European suppliers is also growing in other countries. Security agencies in Germany and Poland are exploring the possibility of collaborating with local developers, while the Netherlands has announced plans to transition to European technology solutions.
However, it will be difficult to completely abandon American and Asian technologies. Experts note that the modern IT industry remains global: even European companies rely on international developments and partnerships.
For example, ChapsVision collaborates with Alcatel Lucent Enterprise, a majority stake in which is held by the Chinese company China Huaxin. This demonstrates that achieving complete technological independence in an interconnected global economy is extremely difficult.
Europe’s goal is not to completely abandon foreign suppliers, but to develop its own solutions in strategically important areas—artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and data analytics.
