The purpose of the protest is “to express opposition to the irresponsible attitude and indifference of government agencies toward the problems facing the agricultural sector.” Gheorghe Jurcanu and Dinu Todos have been named as the organizers of the event. The organizers are asking participants to observe public order to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
The press release was issued by the Association of Grain and Oilseed Producers, Forța Fermierilor. In an explanatory note accompanying the message, the association’s leadership notes that the region’s agricultural producers are putting forward three main demands (LP note: it can be assumed that these demands are similar to those stated by farmers in northern Moldova, who announced a protest on the same day and at the same time). In addition, farmers in the Cahul region intend to once again highlight the specific problems of the southern part of the country, which has been suffering from persistent drought over the past five years. In particular, the farmers are calling on the authorities to officially recognize the region as disadvantaged and provide it with additional opportunities in terms of state support.
Earlier, Logos Press reported that a large group of farmers from the Fălești district plans to stage a protest (and, at the same time, bring agricultural machinery onto the Sculeț-Fălești national highway) on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Demands to the Moldovan authorities: provision of direct payments per hectare for grain and oilseed crops, starting in 2027; refusal to increase the tax burden on farmers in connection with the VAT increase to 20% on agricultural products; 100% reimbursement of the excise tax on diesel fuel used in agricultural work, starting in 2026.
Problems motivate, but examples inspire…
