According to the draft government decision, the building will be taken over by the State Institution “Main Department for Administration of Buildings of the Government of the Republic of Moldova”.

At present, the Parliament building with an area of more than 15 thousand square meters is temporarily on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. This “temporary” situation has been going on since the renovation works started after the events of 2009. The repairs were completed in 2016-2017, but the legal status has not been settled, and the building continues to be on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The situation has repeatedly been the subject of comments by the Audit Chamber, which pointed out problems in the accounting of state property and inconsistencies in financial reporting.

The authorities note that the transfer of the building to the State Chancellery, namely to the General Directorate for Administration of Buildings of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, will ensure correct accounting of the property and routine maintenance of the facility.

The building of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was built between 1976 and 1979. It was designed as an administrative building to house the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the MSSR. During mass protests on April 7, 2009, the building was severely damaged. According to some reports, the damage exceeded $40 million.
