The regime was introduced on March 25, 2026 for a period of 60 days as a result of the Isaccea-Vulcanesti transmission line outage, which led to a power shortage of up to 400 MW during peak hours. The situation was exacerbated by disruptions in the supply of oil products, especially diesel, amid instability in the Middle East.

According to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, the state of emergency made it possible to take a number of operative measures to stabilize the situation in the energy sector.

In particular, the 330 kV high-voltage line Balti-Dnestrovsk was restored, four 110 kV lines connecting Moldova with Romania were put into operation, supply priorities were set for critical consumers, electricity exports were limited during peak hours and measures to reduce and optimize consumption were implemented. The state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica was able to make urgent purchases through direct negotiations.

As Logos Press has already written, after the end of the state of emergency, the government intends to introduce a state of high readiness for 60 days, starting from April 25, 2026. It will allow for continued monitoring of the situation and prompt intervention to ensure the country’s energy security.

“This measure is necessary in the context of international logistical constraints that reduce the flexibility of supply and due to vulnerabilities in the Strait of Hormuz area, as well as the continued impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine,” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said at a meeting on Wednesday, April 22.
