This week, representatives of the FBI and the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service held meetings with law enforcement agencies in the Republic of Moldova to strengthen cooperation in the fight against fraudulent call centers and transnational criminal networks.

According to U.S. officials, these groups use deceptive online advertisements to target U.S. citizens and make phone calls to defraud Moldovan residents, posing risks to the financial security of families in both countries.

“Our message is clear: there is no safe haven for fraudulent operations. Through intelligence sharing and joint law enforcement efforts, the United States and Moldova are working together to dismantle these networks and hold their organizers accountable,” reads a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Nick Petrovich also discussed expanding opportunities for U.S. investment in Moldova and strengthening cooperation in the field of law enforcement.

Earlier, the U.S. Embassy announced the introduction of a new visa restriction policy targeting individuals involved in cybercrime, online fraud, and other types of abuse. According to the U.S. State Department, in 2024 alone, Americans lost at least $10 billion due to criminal schemes, including fake investment offers and online fraud.
