Teachers from schools that are closing will be provided with transportation to their new places of work

Teachers and other education sector employees who are transferring to other schools due to school reorganization will be able to commute to their new place of work free of charge. The government has approved an expansion of the school transportation program, which previously applied only to students.

This measure will apply to administrative, teaching, and support staff at reorganized elementary schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums. The goal of this decision is to promote professional mobility and retain qualified personnel within the education system.

In addition, according to the document, students with disabilities will be provided with transportation to school regardless of distance—based on their individual needs.

“This year, 57 buses will be sent to our schools at the expense of the state budget. This will allow us to transport more than a thousand additional children to school starting in September,” noted Minister of Education and Research Dan Perchun.

As a reminder, on February 26, Parliament passed amendments to the Education Code in its final reading. In particular, these amendments stipulate that extremely small schools (fewer than 10 students) will operate solely as kindergartens. Very small schools (fewer than 30 students) will become “elementary schools—kindergartens,” and under-enrolled schools (fewer than 35 students) will become elementary schools. At the same time, upper-grade classes will be transferred to larger institutions. The distance students will have to travel will not exceed 20 kilometers.

The list of schools undergoing reform will be approved annually by the Ministry of Education by December 31. This year, 63 schools will be reorganized, and another 10 will close.
