The amendments to labor legislation are aimed at bringing the national regulatory framework into line with international standards and ensuring legal clarity. As Logos Press previously reported, the initiative is intended to formally recognize the status of employees who care for children or other family members, as well as to more effectively protect their rights in the workplace.
In addition to restrictions related to night shifts, the initiative also provides for changes to the state pension system. Specifically, paternity leave will count toward non-insurance service, similar to how maternity leave is currently counted for mothers.
According to preliminary estimates, the number of fathers who will be able to exercise this right will increase from 330 in 2027 to 390 in 2029. The average estimated pension amount for this category of beneficiaries will exceed the threshold of 5,000 lei.
The bill has already been introduced into the legislative process; once adopted, the new rules will take effect on January 1, 2027.
