
The initiative aims to better recognize the situation of workers who care for children or other family members and to ensure better protection of their rights in the employment relationship.
According to the draft developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the new regulation will make it possible to clearly define the category of workers with family responsibilities in the legislation; introduce additional guarantees in the field of working conditions; strengthen the protection of parents, including single parents; and better align labor rights with social insurance norms.
The initiative is part of the process of harmonizing national legislation with international standards, including the International Labour Organization (ILO) provisions on equal opportunities and equal treatment in the workplace.
The authorities note that the measure will contribute to greater social justice and recognize the importance of family responsibilities in the professional life of workers.
Previously, the ratification of the ILO Convention on Decent Work for Domestic Workers, as well as the acceleration of the implementation of mechanisms to protect them insisted National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova. Accession to this instrument would mean clear standards of equal treatment, guaranteeing domestic workers protection and fair working conditions on an equal footing with other workers.
