Romania remains virtually the only reliable source of agricultural products shipped by sea to the eastern Black Sea region. Meanwhile, other major exporters in the region are facing new military restrictions in the midst of the peak season for rapeseed, barley, and wheat exports.
At the same time, last week Romanian traders and farmers began complaining that Ukrainian grain was being given priority for rail transport to the port of Constanța. According to them, they are unable to meet delivery deadlines under their contracts because all rail transport from the country’s northeastern regions has been reserved for transporting grain of Ukrainian origin. Using road transport is not economically viable, as it would double logistics costs, writes ukragroconsult.
At the same time, as agrointelegența reports, at the current (initial) stage of “Ukrainian transit,” Romanian farmers are protesting mainly against the lack of transparency on the part of the Romanian authorities in the decision-making process regarding the organization of this process, as well as the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for their own grain exports.
