Radu Miruță, acting head of Romania’s Ministry of Defense, stated that he had sent an official request to the Ukrainian side regarding the operation of drones over the Black Sea. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a report by Radio România.

“I have officially sent a request to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, in which I indicated that it would be advisable for Romania to announce that any drone launched into the Black Sea and manufactured in Ukraine must be programmed in such a way so that if it accidentally enters Romanian territorial waters, under any circumstances, it would self-destruct,” Miruță explained.

According to him, this can be achieved by pre-programming the drone: even if communication is lost, the built-in microprocessor will be able to autonomously decide to self-destruct upon entering Romanian territorial waters.

He noted that such an algorithm can operate autonomously, without constant communication with an operator, since the decision to self-destruct can be made by the drone’s built-in microprocessor.
