This was reported by Turkish Anadolu Agency with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.

The ministry recalled that 20 years ago – on June 4, 2006, the first tanker loaded with export crude oil supplied via BTC was shipped from the Turkish port of Ceyhan to the world markets.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline from Azerbaijan transports oil produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of fields in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli sector of the Caspian Sea and condensate produced from the Shahdeniz field. BTC originates from the Sangachal terminal and, passing through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, reaches the Ceyhan marine terminal on the Turkish Mediterranean coast.

Filling of the BTC pipeline, officially commissioned in June 2006, began on May 10, 2005, and the first crude oil arrived at the Ceyhan terminal on May 28, 2006.
