The country’s leadership – President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu – were the first to lay flowers in memory of those who lost their lives in World War II, starting in the morning.
“Today we honor the memory of people who lost their lives in World War II, people who fought to bring peace back to the continent. Since 2022, when Russia attacked Ukraine, we all have a much deeper understanding of the meaning of peace, we value peace and we want to keep it,” Maya Sandu said.
She also noted that she wants peace to return to Ukraine and “to the entire European continent, to the entire globe”.

A numerous column of the Victory March marched from the center of the capital to the Eternity Memorial Complex, where the participants laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.

Recall, according to the National Social Insurance Fund, as of March this year, 14 veterans of the Second World War remained in Moldova. Recently, the parliament voted in favor of a law, according to which they will receive an annual financial aid of 30,000 lei. Another initiative concerns the introduction of a 50 lei supplement to the pension for the “children of war”, which the parliament is yet to consider.
