Moldova ranks among countries with affordable beef prices globally

Moldova in the group of countries with “cheap beef”

In Moldova, the situation with meat is not as bad as it seems. It turns out that our country is on the 81st line of the global ranking (covering 101 countries of the world with a representative sample) of beef prices. The indicator of our country is $8.79/kg (loin or equivalent back of thigh, market prices). The line above was Peru ($9.01/kg), below - Kazakhstan ($8.70/kg). Thus, strangely enough, Moldova fell into the group of countries with the most democratic price for this product.

This is evidenced by fresh data from the global service Numbeo, which tracks the cost of living in different parts of the planet.

Moldova shows significantly higher availability of red meat compared to many major economies and some of its closest neighbors. By comparison, Hungary is 27th ($15.21/kg), Bulgaria is 41st ($13.38/kg), Poland is 44th ($13.01/kg), Romania is 63rd ($10.91/kg), and Russia is 65th ($10.86/kg). Only in Ukraine red meat is cheaper than in Moldova – $7.35/kg, 89th place in the world “beef” rating. On average, the price of beef in Moldova is twice lower than, for example, in the USA and Germany.

The most “expensive pleasure” high quality beef is for consumers in Switzerland – there for a kilogram of the product will have to pay an average of $45,78/kg. In addition to this country, Norway ($32.88/kg) and Luxembourg ($27.77/kg) are also in the top three in terms of the high cost of the product.

At the opposite end of the list are countries where the price per kilogram does not exceed five US dollars. The cheapest meat is in Pakistan ($4.68/kg), Nigeria ($4.73/kg) and Kenya ($5.23/kg).
