Veterinarian's Day

Veterinary medicine is a highly intellectual profession that requires thorough training, responsibility and determination. The quality of veterinarians’ work determines not just the health of animals, but also the economy of farms and the entire agri-food sector.

Currently, 630 active veterinarians are registered with the College of Veterinarians of the Republic of Moldova, of which approximately 65% are men and 35% are women. The data also show a growing interest in this profession among young people. At the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the number of enrolled students increased from 89 in 2023 to 115 in 2024 and to 155 in 2025. Of these, 43 are national students in 2023, 58 in 2024 and 72 in 2025.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) supports the integration of young professionals in this field. Government Resolution No. 611/2023 approved the Regulation on the provision of conditions for young professionals with higher education in the field of veterinary medicine. The program provides for a lump-sum payment of 15 national average salaries paid in three equal installments, compensation of rental costs or provision of free housing by local authorities, compensation of energy consumption, as well as technical and methodological support within the framework of advanced training programs at ANSA units. Currently, about 30 aspiring veterinarians are benefiting from the opportunities provided by the government, MAIA said in a statement on the occasion of today’s event.

The training of future professionals is also supported by investments in educational infrastructure. In recent years, the development partners have allocated about 1 million euros for equipment for practical training at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The Technical University of Moldova has invested in the overhaul of the teaching building and laboratories so that students can study in conditions as close as possible to the modern requirements of the profession.
