The request was voiced during a meeting between Health Minister Emil Cheban and the Director of the IAEA Cancer Therapy Action Program, Lisa Stevens. The meeting took place in Geneva on the margins of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly.

According to the Health Ministry, the purchase of a new linear gas pedal is necessary to modernize radiation therapy services and expand patients’ access to modern cancer treatment methods.

In addition, the authorities have requested support for training and development of technical components needed to expand radiotherapy services in the northern and southern regions of the country. This initiative is directly linked to the implementation of projects to build regional hospitals in Balti and Cahul, as well as to the process of decentralization of oncological care.

Emil Ceban emphasized that the development of institutional and operational capacities in the field of cancer control is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Health.

Within the framework of the same official visit to Geneva, Ceban held a meeting with Polish Health Minister Jolanta Sobieranska-Grenda. They agreed on the possibility of organizing study tours to Poland to study the experience of digitalization of the health care system. Also, the two states will consider the possibility of organizing a Moldovan-Polish forum on the population’s access to medicines.

During the visit, the Moldovan delegation participated in an event dedicated to the Ukrainian integrated medical model of evacuation and rehabilitation of wounded patients. Following the discussions with Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko, the program of the official visit of Minister Emil Ceban to Kyiv was agreed upon.
