
A team of IMF experts led by Alina Iancu visited Chisinau from May 7-20, 2026. The IMF mission held talks with the Moldovan authorities in connection with the request for a new program supported by the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI).
Signaling a move in the right direction
As previously reported Logos Press, in the morning, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that Moldova and the IMF reached an agreement on a new cooperation program for the next three years. He said that for Moldova, this result is a clear signal that our international partners positively assess the situation in the country.
Later, Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilice also made a statement on the outcome of the talks.
“Today we have good news, he noted. – We have reached a preliminary agreement with the IMF mission, clearly setting the deficit reduction targets and the main parameters and measures to be taken to ensure a sustainable economic growth.”
The minister also said that in the coming days, the Finance Ministry will finalize the draft fiscal policy for next year in accordance with the new targets set within the framework of the negotiations.
