Between 14 and 16 September, environmental inspectors recorded the illegal felling of more than 160 trees in the Drochiei and Nisporeni districts, with the total damage to the environment amounting to 64,997 lei.

In the Drochiei district, near the village of Dominteni, 129 trees of various species at the end of their growth stage, with stump diameters ranging from 9 to 28 centimetres, were illegally felled in a protective forest strip bordering agricultural land. The volume of timber amounted to 19.12 cubic metres, and the damage caused is estimated at 38,000 lei. The identity of the suspect has already been established by the police, and an investigation is underway.

In the Nisporeni district, inspectors discovered an illegally felled sweet cherry tree, as well as 31 oak and maple trees. The inspectors drew up reports for these offences and demanded payment of damages amounting to 27,000 lei.

All the seized timber was returned in full to the forestry enterprise.
