Moldova’s goal

The collection is the result of a national photography competition of the same name, organised for residents of the country and members of the Moldovan diaspora abroad. Participants were invited to photograph gates in their home towns and villages and to share their memories, personal stories and the cultural significance of these gates. Prior to the album’s publication, the selected photographs were displayed at themed photographic exhibitions.

Each finalist in the competition received a personal copy of the book, whilst the remainder of the print run is being donated to school libraries across Moldova. This will enable pupils to learn about traditional architecture, folk crafts and the history of their native region through real-life stories and archive photographs.

The initiative was implemented by the Alliance of Local Communities (Alianța Asociațiilor de Băștinași) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova) as part of the ITA-M and PAF projects, funded by the German Government and the German Federal Foreign Office.

The project aims to promote local heritage and draw public attention to the unique traditions of the country’s various regions.
