This agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the French Development Agency (AFD) was signed in Chisinau on May 14, 2026. The financial package includes a 45 million loan from AFD and a 15 million euro grant from the European Union.
Under the iDRIP, Moldova will invest in the modernization of irrigation infrastructure to provide farmers with access to water. The project is designed to reduce the country’s agricultural losses from drought and improve planning capacity in the agri-food sector.
The program envisages the rehabilitation of two centralized irrigation systems, SCI “Criulenii de Sus” (1,276 ha) and SCI “Călinești” (1,794 ha). After the rehabilitation, 365 farmers will be able to irrigate more than 3 thousand hectares of agricultural land.
The program also foresees the development of small-scale irrigation. To this end, catchment infrastructure for irrigation will be rehabilitated or built for small and medium-sized farms that do not have access to centralized irrigation systems.
Project implementation will be ensured by the National Agency for Land Reclamation, in some components with the participation of the Agency for Agricultural Development and Modernization and the Agricultural Advisory Center. Monitoring will be carried out by the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and project donors.
