The Forța Fermierilor Association draws the attention of the Moldovan authorities to the fact that another uncontrolled increase in diesel fuel prices could seriously undermine the activities of farmers already affected by drought, frosts and other weather conditions in the last few years. In the absence of quick and effective measures, there is a real risk of reducing the cultivated areas and increasing insolvency in the sector.
The leadership of the organization calls on the national government to take proactive measures as a matter of urgency. The first and most important is to ensure that diesel fuel can be purchased at wholesale prices affordable to farmers. To this end, a simple and publicly accessible mechanism to compensate for rising production costs is needed. The Forța Fermierilor Association considers it necessary to renew the mechanism for reimbursement of excise duty on diesel fuel.
Farmers used the diesel excise duty refund mechanism between 2022 and 2023, after which the government abandoned the measure. “In the current circumstances, a return to this instrument is no longer a political expediency but an economic necessity. The government’s intervention must be immediate. Any delay will aggravate the financial imbalance in agriculture and will once again hit this, extremely vulnerable, sector of our country’s economy,” Forța Fermierilor said in a statement.
UPDATE 03.03.2026 15:14
The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) set the maximum price for diesel fuel at 21.21 lei per liter for March 4, 2026, an increase of 0.34 lei per liter compared to today’s price level. A-95 gasoline increased to 23.97 lei per liter (+13 bani).
The price increase is due to international tensions and pressure on the oil market, which continues to push prices higher.
This is one of the sharpest daily price increases in a long period.
