European money will be used to buy Ukrainian drones

European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius said at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense that the first tranche of military aid to Ukraine, which will be transferred within the framework of the EU's 90bn-euro loan, will be used to purchase Ukrainian-made drones.

“For 2026, Ukraine has requested defense aid totaling 28.3 billion euros. The first delivery plan focuses on drones from Ukraine’s advanced defense industry,” the European commissioner was quoted by Ukrayinska Pravda as saying. Andrius Kubilius specified that regarding the next delivery plans, the EU “expects more involvement of the European defense industry”.

As previously reported “European Pravda”, the European Commission is confident that the first tranche of 90 billion for Ukraine will arrive in the second quarter of 2026. After the party of Hungary’s incumbent prime minister was defeated in the April 12 election, the European Union is hoping for an early unblocking of the EU’s €90 billion loan for Ukraine and the EU’s 20th package of sanctions against Russia.

The European Commission proposes to provide Ukraine with 45 billion euros in 2026, of which 16.7 billion will be allocated to the Ukrainian budget and 28.3 billion will go to the Ukrainian army, defense and weapons production.
