With the WB employees, the minister discussed the progress and problems of the projects financed by the bank in Moldova: the Vulcanesti – Chisinau energy independence line, the project for the construction of a high-efficiency cogeneration plant based on gas internal combustion engines with a capacity of 55 MW, as well as the financing and implementation options of a new gas cogeneration plant with a capacity of 250 MW (electric) and 180 MW (thermal).

During the meeting, Junghietu reiterated the strategic importance of these projects for Moldova.

Also during the same visit, the minister met a representative of Carlyle Group Inc. investment fund, which manages more than $400 billion worth of assets worldwide, including oil and gas assets in Europe. The discussions focused on the deal on the acquisition of Lukoil International GmbH (LIG) assets by Carlyle Group and plans for the further development of these assets.

The minister reiterated the Moldovan government’s position, which welcomes the company’s intention to take over the management of the entire LIG business in the region through a specialized oil company and is closely following the process of approval of the relevant transaction by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department.
