Only PAS deputies were invited to the discussion. Opposition deputies, the mayors of Bălți and Soroca, representatives of other localities served by these utilities, and the management of the water supply operators did not receive invitations.
As a result, deputies from the opposition “Our Party”— Elena Gritsko and Konstantin Kuyumzh intervened during the session, accusing the organizers of a lack of transparency and demanding that this issue—which is of significant public interest—be considered in an open forum with the participation of all stakeholders.
“The most alarming thing is that only PAS deputies were invited to this discussion. Not a single opposition deputy, nor the mayors of Bălți or Soroc, nor any representatives of other localities served by these utilities, nor representatives of the water supply operators themselves were invited to participate. What exactly is so secret that it can only be discussed among PAS deputies? Why are those who represent the interests of the people and communities directly affected by these decisions being excluded from participation? “What are you up to?” asked Elena Gritsko, deputy chair of the “Our Party” parliamentary faction.
According to her, it is unacceptable to discuss the future of strategically important enterprises that provide water to hundreds of thousands of residents without the participation of local authorities and all stakeholders.
“When the municipality of Bălți was left without water, the entire country showed solidarity and sought ways to solve the problem. Today, however, PAS is trying to decide the fate of strategically important enterprises within a small circle, without transparency and without consulting those directly affected,” the lawmaker emphasized.
Petkov sounded the alarm
The mayor of Bălți, Alexander Petkov, announced this meeting as early as Monday evening by publishing an internal parliamentary document, which indicated that the agenda included issues concerning the municipal enterprise Apă-Canal Bălți, Apă-Canal Soroca JSC, and Acva-Nord JSC.
“We haven’t even had time to recover from the ‘cousins’ scandal, and already new schemes are being hatched. I get the impression that someone is continuing to pull off their dirty deals behind closed doors, in the company of only ‘their own,’” the mayor stated.
Deputies from “Our Party” demanded that an open meeting be convened with the participation of representatives from all parliamentary factions, the mayors of the affected municipalities, the management of the three companies, and the relevant authorities.
Following the opposition’s intervention, PAS representatives stated that they would hold a new meeting to which the remaining interested parties would also be invited.
