As noted in a statement by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the forum’s theme is “European Integration in the New Geopolitical Context: The Role of Parliaments in Candidate Countries in Strengthening European Cooperation and Advancing the Process of Accession to the European Union.”
Following the opening ceremony, a plenary discussion will be held among the speakers of the parliaments of the EU candidate countries. Participants will discuss the role of national parliaments in the European integration of candidate countries, as well as various models for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation.
In addition, the host side specified that separate bilateral talks between the heads of the parliaments of Serbia and Ukraine are scheduled on the sidelines of the summit to coordinate joint actions ahead of EU accession.
Meanwhile, the press service of the Moldovan Parliament has announced meetings between Igor Grosu and his counterparts from Ukraine and Serbia.
The conference was organized at the initiative of Ana Brnabić, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The forum is intended to serve as a permanent platform for dialogue, coordination, and the exchange of experiences among candidate countries on their path to the EU.
It should be noted that Moldova submitted an official application for EU membership on March 3, 2022—following Ukraine’s lead—and received official candidate status on June 23, 2022. Serbia received this status in March 2012, three years after submitting its application.
