Accessibility requirements will become mandatory for a number of goods and services. They will apply to six areas:
- electronic and software technologies;
- e-commerce;
- financial services;
- transportation;
- government services;
- emergency communications systems.
Specifically, as Logos Press has previously reported, ATMs, payment terminals, e-readers, certain hardware systems, as well as the websites and mobile apps of transportation companies must become accessible. Travel information must also be provided in an accessible format.
The new requirements will also apply to the 112 emergency service—they will govern the process of receiving emergency calls.
Economic entities and service providers face administrative sanctions for noncompliance. However, microenterprises providing services are exempt from these requirements.
The law was drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and brings national legislation into line with European standards.
The main provisions will take effect on January 1, 2028. The requirements specifically concerning the accessibility of goods and services will apply upon Moldova’s accession to the EU.
