Another faction refuses to participate in consultations on the prime minister’s nomination

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) has officially announced that it refuses to participate in consultations with the president regarding the nomination of a new prime minister. Party officials described the process as a “mere formality” carried out solely to create the appearance of compliance with the Constitution.

According to the opposition, the ruling PAS party has effectively “monopolized” all government institutions and fully controls the parliamentary majority. In this regard, the Socialists believe that PAS should independently select a new prime minister, provided it can find a candidate who would “voluntarily agree” to lead the cabinet under the current circumstances.

The opposition sees early parliamentary elections as the only way out of the crisis.

“And immediately after they are held, in the new political landscape, we, the Socialists, will be ready to take on the responsibility. We will propose our own candidate for prime minister, who will come with a team of professionals, a realistic program to save the country, and solid experience in public administration,” the PSRM stated.

As a reminder, earlier, the leader of the MAN party, the capital’s mayor Ion Ceban, also stated that the party’s deputies would not participate in consultations during which candidates for the post of prime minister would be proposed. “Why isn’t the leader of the ruling party—the one who distributes microphones in Parliament—taking responsibility for this?” the party leader asked.
