Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu made another working visit to the Chisinau Power Plant to personally inspect the progress of the work and the technical testing.
“We promised that the Vulcănești–Chișinău power line would be ready by the end of June, and today we can say that all work has been completed. The next important step is to test and commission the entire infrastructure under the strictest safety conditions,” said Minister Dorin Junghietu.
(Actually, the line was originally promised to be commissioned in December 2025—Ed.)
Last week, testing of equipment and installations at the Chisinau power plant began, which is a necessary step before the facility is put into operation. At the same time, all towers along the Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead power line were inspected and tested, with the results confirming that the work was carried out properly, as the Ministry of Energy also notes.
Testing at the Vulcănești power plant has already been completed, and a new important technical phase will follow at the end of this week—the commissioning of a new 400 kV bay as a preparatory measure for comprehensive testing of the entire infrastructure.
These operations are being coordinated with power transmission system operators in neighboring countries to ensure they are carried out under the safest possible conditions. The process involves synchronizing operational activities, confirming the operating modes of the national power system, verifying safety measures, and establishing the sequence of operations required to commission the new transmission infrastructure.
According to the revised schedule adopted by the contractors, the Vulcănești–Chișinău power transmission line is scheduled to enter commercial operation at the end of August, following the completion of all tests and acceptance procedures.
The 400-kV Vulcănești–Chișinău power line represents the largest investment in the Republic of Moldova’s power transmission infrastructure in recent decades.
