
The client is Esco-Voltaj S.R.L., and the equipment supply and project implementation are intended for the state-owned company CET-Nord. The order includes a complete battery-based energy storage system, rather than the supply of individual equipment, which means VIM Energy is responsible for design, installation, commissioning, and system integration.
The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
VIM has not disclosed the capacity or energy storage capacity of the Moldovan facility, so the contract value cannot be reliably converted into a cost per megawatt or megawatt-hour. Large-scale energy storage projects involve much more than just battery cells: energy conversion equipment, transformers, switchgear, control and protection systems, construction work, thermal management systems, fire protection systems, communications equipment, and grid interfaces—all of which contribute to the capital costs.
These integrated systems include equipment from various countries and are managed using VIM Energy’s proprietary software, positioning the company as an integrator rather than a battery cell manufacturer.
It should be noted that this is the Swedish company’s first international contract for the installation of a BESS; previously, it had operated only within Sweden.
For CET-Nord, the engineering work will cover all stages, from equipment delivery to grid connection. Protection settings, transformer ratings, short-circuit levels, reactive power, communications, and commissioning tests must comply with local grid requirements before the battery can be commissioned and operate at the specified capacity.
Logos Press previously reported that CET-Nord JSC (formerly the Balti Thermal Power Plant) announced a tender in May of this year for the installation of a 70-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the thermal power plant in Bălți.
