Such weather conditions increase the risk of fungal and bacterial diseases (false powdery mildew, true powdery mildew, Alternaria, anthracnose, rot and other infections) that can affect field crops, vegetables, fruits and grapes.
In addition, excessive moisture promotes the reproduction of certain pests (snails and slugs, aphids, etc.), which can cause significant damage to crops.
To prevent and limit damage, ANSA recommends:
- constant monitoring of the phytosanitary condition of crops;
- removal and destruction of diseased plant parts;
- agronomic practices to ensure good ventilation of crops;
- avoid agricultural operations on excessively wet soil;
- carry out timely phytosanitary treatments using approved plant protection products purchased from authorized places and used in accordance with the instructions on the label;
- follow the rules of application of plant protection products and “protective breaks”.
ANSA urges farmers to be extra vigilant and seek advice from crop protection specialists at the first sign of disease or pest infestation.
