Trump wants to cut U.S. intelligence staff

President Donald Trump said he wants his new acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, whom he appointed on June 2, to reduce the agency's staff.

He said this while speaking to reporters on Friday, June 5, AP reports.

Trump believes the size of the agency has been “too big for too long.”

“If he downsizes, I won’t mind. He’ll do a great job with that. He’ll keep a close eye on it, but Bill Pulte is very good, he’s very talented,” the American president said.

Trump said that Pulte will remain in office depending on how long it takes for his successor to be confirmed.

In addition, the US president also noted that he is considering five candidates for the position. According to him, they are “all very good.”
