Austrian parliamentarians travel to Moldova to assess development projects

A delegation of Austrian parliamentarians will visit Moldova on May 25-27, in order to assess the efficiency of development projects financed with Austrian support.

The parliamentarians will travel to Straseni district to analyze the practical results of the Austrian development cooperation, implemented in partnership with the European Union. The program of the trip includes participation in the inauguration of a water treatment plant in the village of Găleşti, as well as visits to the water supply system facilities in the village of Căpriana and in the monastery “Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary”. In addition, the officials will visit the Stefan Nyagi Center of Excellence in Art Education and the Austrian School in Chisinau.

The joint delegation is composed of deputies and senators from the foreign policy committees of the National Council and the Austrian Federal Council. The delegation is headed by Petra Bair, Chairperson of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Austrian National Council and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (Social Democratic Party), and Christina Schwarz-Fuchs, Vice Chairperson of the Federal Council (Austrian People’s Party).

The political agenda in Chisinau includes high-level meetings with the Moldovan leadership. The delegation members will hold talks with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi. Also, the delegation will hold discussions with Deputy Speaker of Parliament Doina Gherman and the chairman of the commission for European integration, Marcel Spratar, as well as with members of specialized commissions. The focus will be on the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The Austrian Parliament has separate foreign policy committees in each of the two chambers, whose functions complement each other.
