Isak and Jonathan Andik
According to The Wall Street Journal’s sources, Jonathan was brought in for questioning several months after the court reopened the case. His lawyer confirmed the detention and said that the heir to the fashion empire was cooperating with the investigation.
Isak Andik died in December 2024 during a hike in the Montserrat area near Barcelona. According to the official version, the 71-year-old entrepreneur snapped off a cliff and fell from a height of about 90 meters. At that moment, only his son was next to him.
Initially, the police considered the incident as an accident. However, a few months later, the investigation was suddenly reopened. The judge demanded to re-examine the circumstances of the death of one of the richest men in Spain, after which Jonathan Andik began to be regularly summoned for questioning.
According to the Financial Times, the investigation is checking the version of a possible murder and analyze the details of the last hours of the life of the businessman, as well as the testimony of his son.
Isak Andik’s death has called into question the future of the family empire. Mango, founded by him in 1984, has grown from a small store in Barcelona to an international chain with thousands of outlets and billions of dollars in revenue. By the end of 2025, the company’s sales reached €3.8 billion, and the brand itself remains the second largest player in the Spanish fashion market after Inditex – the owner of Zara.
According to Forbes, Andik’s fortune at the time of his death was estimated at €4.5 billion. The family controlled 95% of Mango through its own holding company, and Jonathan was considered one of the key heirs to the business.
