The National Bank today came out with a message of non-involvement in new schemes to deceive citizens and claims of fraudsters. Attackers send fake letters imitating messages from the NBM and the Center for Combating Cybercrime.
The fraudsters present themselves as bank employees, use phishing to steal personal data and demand prepayment. The National Bank officially warned that it does not conduct such mailings, does not request personal data and does not demand transfers from citizens. It also does not offer to take loans and does not interfere in contractual relations between citizens and financial institutions.
“NBM informs the public about the dissemination on the Internet of fake messages and documents transmitted through messengers, which use false information about the organization. These materials contain elements designed to mislead the public, including the BNM logo, official-looking text, fictitious document numbers and signatures falsely attributed to individuals from the BNM management.
These messages ask citizens to follow certain instructions regarding purported loans, cancellation requests, money transfers, or other financial transactions at the institutions. BNM categorically denies the authenticity of these messages and documents and states that they have not been issued, approved or transmitted to these institutions. The materials in question constitute an attempted fraud”.
It is worth being immediately wary in such cases:
– NBM does not set up “corporate chat rooms” to resolve alleged cases of fraud;
– does not appoint “specialists” to provide individualized instructions on loans, accounts or payments;
– does not contact citizens to request personal data, passwords, confirmation codes or banking information;
– does not require individuals to take out loans, apply for credit, or make transfers to “cancel” transactions.
How to protect yourself
Don’t believe it: the NBM never sends letters demanding that you transfer money to “safe accounts”. Verify: always double-check information through the bank’s official channels. Do not click on links: fraudsters use phishing sites to steal data. Remember that financial scammers often use psychological pressure, demanding quick action. End the conversation as soon as possible!
