According to the medical center’s administration, the patient had previously undergone five open-heart surgeries after being diagnosed with complete atrioventricular block, as well as associated congenital pathologies – ventricular septal defect and subaortic membrane defect. He had previously been fitted with a classic pacemaker with wires, but the device regularly failed about every six months due to scar tissue formation, requiring repeated interventions.

In April, the child was hospitalized in serious condition with frequent episodes of loss of consciousness. Another traditional surgery was assessed by doctors as extremely risky for life. Under these circumstances, specialists decided to use an innovative wireless pacemaker.

The operation was performed by a team of doctors from the Republican Clinical Hospital “Timofei Mosneaga” together with Prof. Maciej Sterlinski from the National Institute of Cardiology in Poland. The intervention lasted about 2-3 hours and was performed without opening the chest – the device was implanted directly into the heart cavity.

According to medics, the postoperative period was favorable. The child returned to normal life without restrictions on physical activity.

It is reported that the service life of the installed device is approximately 10-11 years.
