“I will hurry the ministers today because we can start negotiations on the first cluster even before the end of the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU, and we can open the other five clusters in July,” she said ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, news agencies reported.
And as for the rest, the five clusters, we hope we can manage it in July. We have already done a lot and now everything is ready for the official opening,” Kos emphasized.
Work on all six negotiation clusters is still ongoing at the technical level. The European Commission believes that all technical obstacles have been removed and the work is ready to be officially launched. The negotiations are being conducted on a merit-based basis.
Negotiations with Moldova should also officially enter a new stage in June 2026, as the process is going on in parallel with the Ukrainian one, and the EU adheres to a “package approach” to both countries, the authorities believe. But there were no official statements from the European Commission representatives on this matter.
