Gagauzia surpasses Chișinău in street lighting coverage

Gagauzia is ahead of the capital by the degree of street illumination

The cities of Gagauzia and Chisinau have the highest level of street lighting. ATU Gagauzia still holds the first place in the Republic with 96.3% illumination of city streets. The municipality of Ceadir-Lunga and the city of Vulcanesti achieved 100% lighting coverage.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) provides data on the regional improvement of the country. In Chisinau, the lighting level amounted to 91.7% (an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to 2024). The lowest lighting levels are in the Southern region (73.9% – 3.3 percentage points less than in 2024) and in the Northern region (76.1%). In the Central Region, the illuminance level is about 80.3%.

Wider coverage with street lighting (more than 90% of the total length of streets) was recorded in 22 urban settlements. The total length of illuminated urban streets exceeds 3.5 thousand kilometers out of a total of 4.2 thousand kilometers. In 2025, the total illumination of cities across the country reached about 82.7%.

However, in 2025 (as in the previous year) in 6 cities (Cricova, Edinec, Glodeni, Frunze, Bukovets and Jargara) street lighting was provided up to 50%. Of these, the lowest level of street lighting was recorded in Glodeni (29.8%) and Frunze (36.4%).
