Science wants to be useful on the road to Europe

Ion Tigineanu

The statement was made by ASM President Ion Tighineanu at a festive meeting of the Academy of Sciences, where the prizes for significant scientific results in 2023-2024 were awarded. He noted that Moldova is going through a difficult period, and only its own efforts and reliance on science will help the country to successfully pass the European path.

“We have to find solutions to all problems by ourselves – we work here, live here, bring up our children. Many people help us, but it is us who should build here, at home. It is good to see that the scientific community continues to work despite the difficulties: quite high quality works are published in international databases. In some areas, of course, the infrastructure is outdated, but we hope to solve these problems together with our development partners. And, of course, we expect that funding from the state budget will also be increased,” he said.

The second important message of the President of the Academy of Sciences is to keep young scientists in the country.

“What is the strength of our scientific community? In the experience of people who have been working in this field for decades – academicians, corresponding members of the Academy, professors who have accumulated invaluable knowledge, and in the energy of young researchers. We have really talented young people. Unfortunately, we are losing some of them, but some remain. And we must do our best to make sure that our young specialists find themselves here, put down roots and do not go abroad,” emphasized Ion Tigineanu.

He asked MP Adrian Bely, who was present at the awarding ceremony, to convey this message to the Parliament.

There is only one young researcher on the list of AMN prize winners:
