Meteorological forecasts warn of a sharp cold snap at the end of this week. The temperature may drop to -2 degrees Celsius during the night and morning hours.

Agronomists of agro-industrial companies note that risks arise in relation to both fruit and field crops. In the most vulnerable position will be plantations of late berries of remontant varieties, as well as vineyards. Usually, early autumn frosts are most dangerous on the soil surface and in a half-meter tier from it. The bulk of the table grape crop, even in classic vineyards and even more so in “pergola” vineyards, is usually located above this level. However, there is still a possibility of frost damage to the lower bunches. In any case, cold weather will slow down the process of accumulation of sugars in berries and, as a consequence, will delay the harvesting campaign.

Experts also fear the possibility of seeds falling from sunflower baskets of some hybrids resistant to drought, but not to frost.

For the sugar beet complex, cold weather will mean faster harvesting. Sugar beet companies are likely to increase sugar beet stocks, which are placed after harvesting at the sugar factories’ cagat sites. The cold weather will pose a certain risk to sugar producers only if it alternates with periods of sharp warming and the probability of a decrease in the quality of sugar beets in caggars.
