The top five wine companies in Romania reached a combined turnover of more than 1.3 billion Romanian lei (exchange rate to Moldovan lei – 1:3.88) in 2024, up 5.3% year-on-year. Total net profit increased by 9 million lei, from 180.6 million lei in 2023 to 189.6 million lei in 2024. They have 1,500 employees. This is evidenced by the data provided by the companies to the Romanian Ministry of Finance.

At the head of this list is the Purcari Wineries group, whose home country is the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, its results are not limited to Romania.

Purcari Group currently consists of seven companies operating in three different countries. In Moldova, it operates through Purcari Winery, Bostavan Winery and Bardar Winery. In Romania it owns Crama Ceptura in Dialu Mare (zhudec Prahova) and in Bulgaria it owns Angel’s Estate. Thus, it is one of the main wine and brandy producers in Central and Eastern Europe, with more than 2,000 hectares of its own vineyards.

Wine producer Purcari (stock symbol WINE), listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, ended 2024 with a turnover of 382.3 million lei, up 3.4% from the previous year.

According to the latest report by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), Romania’s wine market will reach 3.7 million hectoliters in 2024, placing the country in 12th place in the world and sixth in Europe.
