Romanian citizens may join Moldelectrica Board of Directors

In March, the Moldovan Ministry of Energy launched a merit-based selection procedure for 4 out of 7 members of the Moldelectrica Board of Directors. According to Moldovan legislation, they will make up the part of the Board that does not represent the public administration and the enterprise itself.

After the stage of evaluation of documents, 11 candidates were admitted to the contest and will be interviewed by the ministry on May 8. Three of them are from Romania, while the remaining eight are from the Republic of Moldova.

One of the Romanian candidates is Corina Popescu, former CEO of Transelectrica and Electrica SA in Romania. She was also state secretary at the Ministry of Energy in Bucharest, head of energy distribution operations at Electrica SA, manager of electricity operations at E.ON Romania, and manager of energy generation assets at OMV Petrom. Corina Popescu is currently Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Enevo Group SA.

Another candidate who reached the interview stage is Bogdan Toncescu, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transelectrica. He currently heads the corporate governance/representation and investor relations department of the Romanian electricity transmission operator.

The third contender from Romania was Claudiu Rosca. He is the administrator of Turism Lotus Felix SA, which operates the Lotus Therm Hotel in Baile Felix, “the most luxurious spa in Romania,” according to his own words in the bid documents. He is also a board member of copper producer Cuprumin Abrud, controlled by the Romanian state through the economy ministry, where he also served as economic and financial director in the past. Claudio Roşca has also held senior positions at Banca Transilvania, BT Capital Partners, Depozitarul Central, Transilvania Investments Alliance, Aro Palace or şantierul Naval Orşova.
