Brussels specified that the funds will primarily go toward air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition, and radar stations, according to the Ukrainian publication “European Truth”, citing the European Commission’s press service.
The publication notes that the European Commission’s approval of new procurements complements previously approved plans totaling 16 billion euros, of which 8.35 billion euros had already been allocated to Ukraine as part of the “defense” component of the 90-billion-euro support package.
“On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Europe is demonstrating that our support is unwavering and concrete. Today we approved 6.1 billion euros for air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition, and radar stations, which Ukraine urgently needs. As Russia intensifies its attacks, we are stepping up our efforts to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its airspace. Europe stands in solidarity with Ukraine, and we will provide it with what it needs, when it needs it”, European Truth quotes European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as saying.
