In addition to constructing shelters, the agency is preparing evacuation plans, relocating fuel tanks from high-risk areas, and collaborating with the Department of Defense to ensure early detection of airborne threats.
The directives also include “the emergency evacuation of personnel and the suspension of operations in exceptional situations, including in the event of damage to infrastructure at border crossings on Ukrainian territory, as well as – the development of practical instructions on how border patrols should respond in the event of air attacks.” The plan also calls for “the establishment of security checkpoints at border crossings using internal resources.” No further details were provided.
Construction of the first protective shelters has begun at the “Mirnoe” and “Jujulești” border checkpoints in the south of the country. The Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs has classified these two checkpoints as the most vulnerable due to their critical proximity to the sites of the latest drone strikes.
These and all other international checkpoints on the border with Ukraine (including those in the Odessa and Northern sectors) are currently operating as usual.
