Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz to be “U.S. territory”

"We cannot allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons; otherwise, you'll see some very bad things happen. That's why we went there and stopped them. They are so eager to reach an agreement, but we don’t even know if we want that, because I believe the Strait of Hormuz is now American territory,” the U.S. president said at a rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

A few hours before his speech, while speaking with reporters near his plane, the White House chief stated that the U.S. exercises “full control” over the entire region surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that Iran would “gladly” agree to a deal, but that Tehran is not yet ready to conclude the “right agreement.” The American leader emphasized that he enters into “only favorable agreements.”

In addition, Trump compared relations with Tehran to the situation surrounding Venezuela, from which, he said, the U.S. is now making “billions of dollars.”

“We’re making billions and billions of dollars off of Venezuela. We get along great with Venezuela. By the way, nobody likes to talk about it… And in fact, to some extent—though it’s a little different—we’re achieving the same kind of success with Iran,” Trump boasted.

The U.S. president also described the situation surrounding Iran as his “biggest problem right now,” adding that he finds it difficult to understand exactly who in Tehran to negotiate with at the moment.

“Actually, this is one of my biggest problems. I don’t know who the hell to deal with. That’s the problem. It’s the only country in the world where nobody wants to be president. They say, ‘Who wants to be president?’” ‘No, no, I don’t want to be president,’ the U.S. president lamented.”
