The ANSA news agency prevented the sale of large shipments of substandard rice

The National Food Safety Agency seized and destroyed three shipments of “Arborio” rice, totaling nearly 3 metric tons. This decision was made following laboratory tests that showed the product exceeded the maximum permissible level of residual insecticide (Piperonil butoxide).

The samples were taken in accordance with the ANSA Director’s Order (No. 605 of October 22, 24) on strengthening controls on rice imports from a specific list of countries. The three rice shipments in question were placed under official supervision in a timely manner and did not enter retail distribution channels.

In a statement regarding this incident, the agency once again urges economic operators to act with the utmost responsibility, monitor the situation, and strictly comply with applicable laws.
