This was reported by the Customs Service. Economic operators and carriers should be aware that when planning international shipments, they will need to take into account the direction of travel, the type of vehicle, and the method of transporting goods.
Specifically, freight vehicles will be able to enter Moldova through the Cahul border crossing, except for those transporting goods in containers, as well as in thermos-type or refrigerated trailers and semi-trailers. For these vehicles, other border crossings must be used.
Vehicles with empty open-top or tarpaulin-covered trailers and semi-trailers, as well as empty containers, will be able to exit Moldova via the Cahul checkpoint. Vehicles carrying cargo, as well as other categories of empty trailers, semi-trailers, and tankers, will have to cross the border through other border customs checkpoints.
However, these conditions do not apply to the transport of goods using ATA carnets. Authorized economic operators will also be able to cross the border via Cahul, with the exception of tankers, thermos-type trailers, and refrigerated semi-trailers.
As explained by customs officials, these requirements are due to the specific infrastructure and operational capabilities of the Cahul checkpoint.
