“By 2030, we plan to open 10 multifunctional sports centers across the country and 50 well-equipped sports fields at schools,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

The announcement was made at the national “Sports of Generations” festival, which took place on Sunday in Nisporeni—the city designated as the 2026 Sports Capital. The amount the city will receive this year as part of this designation is twice the amount allocated last year.

Throughout the year, the city will host local and national sports competitions, festivals, exhibition performances, and events for children, youth, families, seniors, and people with disabilities.

As part of the ceremony, the Sports Capital Cup was symbolically handed over to Nisporeni by Călărași, which held the title the previous year.
