Ilya Trombitsky, director of Eco-TIRAS, reported this on his Facebook page, citing Ukrainian sources.
In a comment to Logos Press, the expert noted that the Dniester Reservoir, like most others, is shaped like a convex inverted lens. Consequently, unless the initial conditions improve, the process of water level decline that has begun will accelerate over time. In the case of the Dniester Reservoir, the inflow of water is decreasing. The precipitation forecast for this week is likely to fall mostly in the middle reaches of the Dniester, whereas the water level in the reservoir is influenced by precipitation in the upper reaches of the river. And there, according to the forecast, precipitation will be light (about 6 mm).
According to Ilya Trombitsky, prolonged (at least a week) heavy precipitation could significantly improve the situation. However, it appears that such precipitation can only be expected in the fall. From this perspective, the Odessa administration’s intention to implement a scheduled water supply plan for the city seems justified. In this context, a constant and timely flow of information on the water supply situation in Chisinau is essential, given that the hydrological conditions of the Dniester River are not improving.
