This was announced by Government Secretary-General Alexei Buzu during an appearance on a program aired on one of the country’s television channels.

He specified that approximately 500 municipalities in Moldova have made final decisions on voluntary consolidation—nearly 60% of the total. According to Buzu, this is an encouraging sign.

“We have already begun working on incentive measures and development projects with those who have completed the voluntary merger process. At the same time, we have launched the process of regulatory merger, and there are still many stages ahead,” said the Secretary General of the Government.

He emphasized that local elected officials have until the end of August to approve the final decision and move on to the next stage, during which development projects will be discussed.

“The government will provide threefold financial incentives, so I urge everyone to make these decisions. A village has a chance to attract resources and investments only if it is part of a stronger municipal administration,” noted Alexei Buzu.

He reminded them that local elected officials still have two weeks to complete the process. At the end of August, the government will take stock and determine the final number of municipal districts with finalized decisions. And in September, it will clarify the situation, including regarding regulatory consolidation.
